Ernest Joseph MacEachen passed away peacefully at his home in Guelph on Friday, September 23, 2016 in his 84th year. Beloved husband of Bereniece for 55 years and loving father to Cameron MacEachen (Burlington, ON) and Moira and her partner Ian (Guelph, ON).

Predecease­d by his wife, Bereniece (nee Muise) and by brothers, Don MacEachen (Sarnia, ON), Reginald MacEachen (Sydney, NS) and Wilbert MacEachen (Kingston, ON). Survived by his brother, Neil MacEachen (Halifax, NS) and by sisters-in-law, Marie MacEachen (Sydney, NS) and Anne MacEachen (Kingston, ON) and was ‘Uncle Ernie’ to many nieces and nephews.

Ernie was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia on March 29, 1933 to Sarah and Daniel MacEachen. He graduated from St. Francis Xavier University in 1956 with an engineerin­g diploma and a Bachelor of Science degree. While at St.

F.X. he joined the university reserve training plan (URTP/54) and spent three summers in pilot training at Moose Jaw, Winnipeg and Trenton, Ontario.

Ernie made his career as an Airline Captain, joining Air Canada as a pilot in February 1957 and retiring in 1977. Ernie and Bereniece were married August 20, 1960 and made their home in Mississaug­a for 50 years where they raised their family. Ernie loved gardening and was always tinkering with something in the basement. He loved gadgets and new technology and this kept him busy during retirement.

Family and friends are invited to the Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St., Guelph, for visitation on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 from 12 p.m. followed by a Funeral Service in the chapel at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Guelph General Hospital would be appreciate­d by the family.
