Doctor shortage problem needs answers

Why are we losing good doctors? More people should be looking for answers to this question. Especially when a great surgeon like Dr. Phil Smith leaves. He’s one of the best and the hospital where he is bound is very lucky to receive him.

Dr. Smith will be missed a lot and best of luck to him. But it just goes to show that other hospitals care to have good doctors. They gain and we lose, as always.

In the meantime, Cape Breton residents should be getting after out local politicians about the doctor shortage here. Ask our hospital administrators, too.

Yes, we may be getting a few doctors but down the road they will be leaving too unless things get better around here. It doesn’t make sense – our good doctors leaving and others coming to take their place. Something is wrong with this picture.

I also read recently in the Cape Breton Post that the Northside General Hospital closed for two days just before the long weekend. That shouldn’t be as sickness doesn’t take a holiday.
