-

It’s with sadness that we announce the passing of Velma Norman (nee Skinner) on Monday, September 26, 2016, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Velma was born to Ambrose and Sarah (Baker) Skinner of Boxie, Newfoundland and moved to Cape Breton at the age of 20 years. She later married William Norman and had two daughters, Elizabeth and Hilda.

Velma was predeceased by her parents; husband; daughter, Hilda; three sisters and eight brothers.

She is survived by her loving and devoted daughter, Elizabeth, at home; sister, Lillian Keeping and brothers, Sam and Ronald Skinner, all in Newfoundland. Velma is also survived by three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was a lifelong member of St. George’s parish, where she served many years on the ACW. Velma was a wonderful homemaker and loved to have family and friends visit her at home for a cup of tea or to stay awhile. She enjoyed cooking and knitting and participated in many craft shows throughout the local area, up to the age of 103 years.

Many thanks to Dr. Myatt and his staff for many years of care and kindness. Also, thank you to the staff of 4C and Palliative Care for their wonderful care over the past few weeks.
