CANARY, Ronald Joseph ‘Devil’

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald Joseph Canary, age 79 of Glace Bay, on Friday, February 3, 2017 at the Glace Bay Hospital with his family by his side.

Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late James and Cecilia (Jessome) Canary.

Ronald worked for Devco for 20 years as a coal miner. He also worked on the constructi­on of the Lingan Power Plant, Hydro Plant in Wreck Cove, Heavy Water Plant and the reconstruc­tion of the Fortress of Louisbourg. Devil enjoyed hockey, baseball and any sports in general. He was a member of Holy Cross Church and will be remembered as a hard worker.

Ronald is survived by his son, Bernie (Sherry Hall), Brampton, Ontario.

Besides his parents, Ronald was predecease­d by his wife, Mary Redmond; sisters, Anna, Helen; brothers, Billy, Jimmy and Brian.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning, February 7, 2017 followed by the funeral service at 10 a.m., all in V.J. McGillivra­y Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding. Interment will be held at a later date.
