Glace Bay

It is with great sad­ness that we an­nounce the pass­ing of Ron­ald Joseph Ca­nary, age 79 of Glace Bay, on Fri­day, Fe­bru­ary 3, 2017 at the Glace Bay Hospi­tal with his fam­ily by his side.

Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late James and Ce­cilia (Jes­some) Ca­nary.

Ron­ald worked for Devco for 20 years as a coal miner. He also worked on the con­struc­tion of the Lin­gan Power Plant, Hy­dro Plant in Wreck Cove, Heavy Wa­ter Plant and the re­con­struc­tion of the Fortress of Louis­bourg. Devil en­joyed hockey, base­ball and any sports in gen­eral. He was a mem­ber of Holy Cross Church and will be remembered as a hard worker.

Ron­ald is sur­vived by his son, Bernie (Sherry Hall), Bramp­ton, On­tario.

Be­sides his par­ents, Ron­ald was pre­de­ceased by his wife, Mary Red­mond; sis­ters, Anna, He­len; brothers, Billy, Jimmy and Brian.

Cre­ma­tion has taken place. Vis­i­ta­tion will be held at 9 a.m. on Tues­day morn­ing, Fe­bru­ary 7, 2017 fol­lowed by the fu­neral ser­vice at 10 a.m., all in V.J. McGil­livray Fu­neral Home, 16 Re­serve Street, Glace Bay. Fr. Nor­man MacPhee pre­sid­ing. In­ter­ment will be held at a later date.
