It is with heavy hearts and great sad­ness that we an­nounce the pass­ing of our Mom to­day. El­iza Chris­tena (Fitzger­ald) Dixon, 80, passed away peace­fully in her home, with her lov­ing fam­ily by her side on Sun­day, Fe­bru­ary 5, 2017.

Born in White Point on Fe­bru­ary 16, 1936, she was a daugh­ter of the late Emery and Mary (MacIn­tosh) Fitzger­ald.

At the age of 18 she was mar­ried. She be­came the mother of seven chil­dren who she de­voted her life to. El­iza was a hard­work­ing fish­er­man’s wife who ran the house­hold. She took great care of her fam­ily.

El­iza lived her life de­voted and cen­tered to­wards her fam­ily. She was a strong hearted woman, mother, grand­mother and great-grand­mother. Known as Nanny to her grand­kids, she al­ways had cook­ies in her cup­board and choco­late milk in the fridge. Her love for them all will never be for­got­ten. She took pride in each of them. El­iza held a spe­cial bond with her son John, who was al­ways by her side. Some of El­iza’s hob­bies in­cluded play­ing cards and Bingo nights. She al­ways en­joyed both. You could al­ways rely on her for a good laugh and witty re­marks. She spent many hours en­joy­ing word searches and puz­zle books. El­iza was also a mem­ber of CWL for 63 years.

El­iza will be missed deeply by her sons, Nel­son (Lisa), John, Ju­nior (Ann Marie), Todd (Angie); daugh­ters, Amarlis ‘Mug­gins’, Marie (Jerry) Briand, Mary (Glenn) Fricker; 18 grand­chil­dren; 10 great­grand­chil­dren; her sis­ters; Peggy Purdy, Cape North, Doris (Walt) Fraser, Pleas­ant Bay, Joyce (Scott) Brown, Ding­wall; and five broth­ers; John, Timmy, Syd­ney, Hughie ,Daryl (Pam ) Ding­wall.

Be­sides her par­ents, she was pre­de­ceased by her hus­band, Wil­liam Daniel; son, Daniel Fran­cis; step-mother Mary (Bar­ron) Fitzger­ald; sis­ters, Marie Dixon and Joan MacEach­ern; brother, An­gus Fitzger­ald; a spe­cial son-in-law, Richard Mac­Don­ald, and great­grand­son, Richard Gerald Mac­Don­ald.

A spe­cial thank you to the doc­tors, nurses and home care work­ers who pro­vided care to El­iza.

In hon­our­ing El­iza’s wishes, cre­ma­tion has taken place.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Church, Ding­wall, 2 p.m. Thurs­day Fe­bru­ary 9, 2017, with Fr. Jake An­drea of­fi­ci­at­ing.
