MAC­DON­ALD, Emma (Blan) (Humby)

It is with sad hearts and love that we an­nounce the pass­ing of Emma (Blan) Mac­Don­ald (Humby) on Mon­day, Fe­bru­ary 6, 2017.

Emma was born in Syd­ney on July 23, 1924, to the late Hezekiah and An­nie Jane (Rus­sell) Humby, Whit­ney Pier, Syd­ney.

She is sur­vived by her sis­ter, Noreen (Ge­orge) Jackson, Syd­ney; her chil­dren, Sylvia (late Leonard) Heath, North­side East Bay, Linda (Reg) Mur­ray, Syd­ney, Bax­ter (Marie), Ham­monds Plains, N. S. and Jim, Syd­ney. Also sur­vived by 14 grand­chil­dren, 14 great-grand­chil­dren and one great-great grand­son; a num­ber of neph­ews, nieces and cousins, as well as her fa­vorite “buddy” Cape Bre­ton Kelly.

Mom mar­ried our dad, Gil­bert Wes­ley Mac­Don­ald on Septem­ber 2, 1943, in Syd­ney and moved to Gabarus, where they lived for nearly 50 years, be­fore mov­ing back to Syd­ney. Prior to mov­ing back to Syd­ney, she was a mem­ber of Zion Wes­ley United Church, Gabarus, where she was an ac­tive mem­ber of the UCW and the church choir.

She was a home­maker for many years and her great­est pas­sion was knit­ting, cro­chet­ing and do­ing em­broi­dery work. Mom spent many years vol­un­teer­ing with Cape Bre­ton Re­gional Hos­pi­tal Aux­il­iary, Club 55, Mira Stitch­mak­ers, knit­ting for the IWK and her church and she en­joyed her Wed­nes­day af­ter­noons at the United Protes­tant Church of Syd­ney River Din­ner Club.

Be­sides her par­ents, she was pre­de­ceased by her hus­band; son, Gil­bert; daugh­ter, Emma (Ver­non) Mur­ray, N.B. and also her sib­lings, Herb, Sam, Eli and Bax­ter.

Mom was a mem­ber of the United Protes­tant Church of Syd­ney River.

Vis­i­ta­tion will be held at Syd­ney Me­mo­rial Chapel, 49 Wel­ton St., Syd­ney on Wed­nes­day, Fe­bru­ary 8 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral ser­vice will be held in the chapel on Thurs­day, Fe­bru­ary 9 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Dana Felt­mate of­fi­ci­at­ing. In­ter­ment in Lake­view Ceme­tery, Gabarus, at a later date.
