Salt-N-Pepa’s here, and they’re in effect — well, they’ll be here soon anyway.

The groundbreaking female hip-hop trio is coming to Sydney on May 26 to turn the clock back to the days of overalls, giant hoop earrings, Starter jackets, Nike Air Jordans and Tommy Hilfiger everything when they headline the all-ages I Love the 90s concert at Centre 200.

And at least one Cape Breton music fan couldn’t be happier.

Nikki Conrod of Sydney said she was “ecstatic” when the show was announced Tuesday, noting she still listens to Salt-N Pepa songs today.

“I’m super-excited — I still prefer ’90s music over the music of today, so “Shoop” is still in the playlist,” said Conrod, 34. “I’m just hoping it comes true.”

Best known for hits like “Push It,” “Shoop,” “What a Man” and “Let’s Talk About Sex,” Salt-N Pepa — Cheryl (Salt) James, Sandra (Pepa) Denton and Deidra (DJ Spinderella) Roper — will be joined by a who’s-who of 1990s chart-toppers like Rob Base, All-4-One, Color Me Badd, Biz Markie, Young MC and C+C Music Factory featuring Freedom Williams.

Conrod, who plans to go to the show with her sister Amanda MacDonald, said it’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see the artists she listened to growing up perform live.

“It’s a chance to see people who I never thought I’d be able to see — it’s quite a lineup for a ’90s fan,” she said. “Where else would you see Color Me Badd? It’s not like they’d just come here and do a concert.”

Halifax and Moncton will also host a show, which Entertainment Weekly has called an “arena-sized dance party.”

Tickets — starting at $62.75 — go on sale Friday at 9 a.m. and are available through Ticket Atlantic at www.ticketatlantic.com, by phone at 902451-1221, or at participating Atlantic Superstore outlets.
