Sis­ter Anna Beaton, 92, for­merly Sis­ter Don­alda Maria, a Sis­ter of St. Martha of Antigonish died at Bethany Mother­house, on Wed­nes­day, Fe­bru­ary 8, 2017.

She was in the 72nd year of her re­li­gious life.

Born in In­ver­ness, Cape Bre­ton, Nova Sco­tia, Sis­ter Anna was the daugh­ter of the late Don­ald Dun­can and Mary Mar­garet (MacIn­tyre) Beaton of In­ver­ness, N.S.

Sis­ter Anna en­tered the Sis­ters of St. Martha on Fe­bru­ary 15, 1944, pro­nounced her first vows on Fe­bru­ary 15, 1946, and her fi­nal vows on Au­gust 15, 1949. Sis­ter min­is­tered in the area of house­hold ser­vices for most of her life, and spent sev­eral years as Sacristan at St. Fran­cis Xavier Univer­sity in Antigonish. She served in house­hold ser­vices in Antigonish at Bethany, the Coady In­ter­na­tional In­sti­tute, St. Martha’s Con­vent, House of Hope, Xavier Com­mu­nity, Faustina Com­mu­nity, and Marian Com­mu­nity; in Cape Bre­ton at St. Joseph’s Hos­pi­tal, Glace Bay, and Lit­tle Flower In­sti­tute, Syd­ney; Min­eral Springs Hos­pi­tal in Banff, AB, and St. Martha’s Catholic Cen­ter, Bos­ton, MA, USA. She spent one year in a Re­newal Pro­gram at Dover, MA. in 1991/92, and was Lo­cal Leader in her com­mu­nity 1985/87.

Be­sides her par­ents, Sis­ter Anna was pre­de­ceased by four of her sis­ters, Sis­ter Dolena, CSM, Sarah, Mary Agnes Beaton, Kaye Kennedy and two broth­ers, John Dun­can and John An­gus. She is sur­vived by one sis­ter, Mary Michael Pyne, So. Port­land, ME, USA. She also has sev­eral nieces and neph­ews who have been de­voted to Sis­ter Anna and she to them. Sis­ter Anna loved the Scot­tish Gaelic lan­guage and mu­sic. She could cer­tainly get her feet mov­ing to any rhythm and dance steps, invit­ing all to join her.

The re­mains will be rest­ing at Bethany be­gin­ning on Wed­nes­day, Fe­bru­ary 15th at 1:15 p.m.

A Celebration of Vigil will be held on the same evening at 7:30 p.m. Liturgy of Chris­tian burial will take place on Thurs­day, Fe­bru­ary 16th at 2 p.m. in Bethany Chapel.
