It is with great sad­ness that we the fam­ily an­nounce the pass­ing of our beloved wife, mother, grand­mother, sis­ter and aunt, Au­drey Kath­leen “Babe” Fiander, age 83, on Satur­day, Fe­bru­ary 11, 2017 at the Cape Bre­ton Re­gional Hos­pi­tal, Syd­ney.

Babe was born in Mon­treal, May 5, 1933, moved to North Syd­ney in her younger years, she was a daugh­ter of the late Robert Mor­gan O’Quinn and Emma (Achurst) O’Quinn. In her younger years Babe was an avid hockey player with the North Syd­ney ladies team, an archer and swim­mer, she was al­ways ac­tive. She en­joyed the out­doors, spend­ing many hours hunt­ing, fly fish­ing, camp­ing and gardening. She was a vol­un­teer and founder of the Sprigs of Heather Pipe Band and a vol­un­teer at the North­side Com­mu­nity Guest Home and through­out her life was a con­stant care­giver. With her hus­band Don, she owned and op­er­ated DonRay Lum­ber and Build­ing Sup­plies, Syd­ney Mines and later Mr. Fi’s Fram­ing in North Syd­ney un­til her re­tire­ment in 1990.

She was a mem­ber of St. John the Baptist Angli­can Church, North Syd­ney.

Babe is sur­vived by her hus­band Don Fiander, two daugh­ters Paula Fiander (Luc Sch­ingh) and Belinda (Bill) Fin­ney both of Kelowna, BC, by her grand­son Jor­dan Fiander Fin­ney, two sis­ters Laura Aly­ward , Oshawa, Betty (Gus) MacPher­son, Corona Del Mar, Cal­i­for­nia and by sev­eral nieces and neph­ews.

Babe was pre­de­ceased by her sis­ter Hazel King.

By re­quest there will be no vis­i­ta­tion. A fu­neral ser­vice will be held 2:00 pm Sun­day, Fe­bru­ary 19th, at St. John the Baptist Angli­can Church, North Syd­ney with Rev. Julio Martin and Fa­ther Damien MacPher­son of­fi­ci­at­ing. Burial will take place at Lake­side Ceme­tery, at a later date. Me­mo­rial do­na­tions may be sent to Hospice Pal­lia­tive Care So­ci­ety of Cape Bre­ton. Fu­neral ar­range­ments are un­der the di­rec­tion of W.J.
