It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmothe­r, sister and aunt, Audrey Kathleen “Babe” Fiander, age 83, on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Babe was born in Montreal, May 5, 1933, moved to North Sydney in her younger years, she was a daughter of the late Robert Morgan O’Quinn and Emma (Achurst) O’Quinn. In her younger years Babe was an avid hockey player with the North Sydney ladies team, an archer and swimmer, she was always active. She enjoyed the outdoors, spending many hours hunting, fly fishing, camping and gardening. She was a volunteer and founder of the Sprigs of Heather Pipe Band and a volunteer at the Northside Community Guest Home and throughout her life was a constant caregiver. With her husband Don, she owned and operated DonRay Lumber and Building Supplies, Sydney Mines and later Mr. Fi’s Framing in North Sydney until her retirement in 1990.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney.

Babe is survived by her husband Don Fiander, two daughters Paula Fiander (Luc Schingh) and Belinda (Bill) Finney both of Kelowna, BC, by her grandson Jordan Fiander Finney, two sisters Laura Alyward , Oshawa, Betty (Gus) MacPherson, Corona Del Mar, California and by several nieces and nephews.

Babe was predecease­d by her sister Hazel King.

By request there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, February 19th, at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney with Rev. Julio Martin and Father Damien MacPherson officiatin­g. Burial will take place at Lakeside Cemetery, at a later date. Memorial donations may be sent to Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton.
