PASTUCK, Raymond

River Ryan

-

It is with great sadness and love that we, the family, announce the passing of Raymond Pastuck, age 86, on February 11, 2017 at the New Waterford Hospital surrounded by his loving wife and family by his side. Raymond was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. Born on July 22, 1930 in New Waterford to Barney and Lillian (Matlock) Pastuck.

Raymond was a proud and hardworking coal miner and was employed at No. 12, 26 and Lingan collieries. Raymond was a truly amazing and talented man, a jack of all trades and master of most. He could fix or build anything from repairing automobiles to building and up keeping his own home, whether it was carpentry, plumbing or electrical he could do it all. While working in the coal mines, he was considered a dynamo by his fellow miners and often would be sought after for advice in how to accomplish a task both efficiently and safely. In fact, when the Miners Museum came into being they required a large piece of coal to be displayed proudly at the entrance to the museum and management of the mine requested Raymond and a couple of his peers to find the piece.

Raymond is survived by his loving wife of sixty four years, Sandra (Halnuck); his four children, daughter, Debby (Arden) White, Scotchtown; sons, Kevin (Betty Ann), Annapolis Valley, Ronnie, River Ryan and Weldon (Catherine) Pastuck, Lingan; grandchildren, Raymond, Tyrra (Robert), Stacey, Micheal (Jill), Matthew (Cheryl), Amanda (Marty), Weldon (Krista), Joseph, Christopher (Rebecca); 16 great-grandchildrten and many nieces and nephews.

Raymond is also survived by siblings, Hilda MacKinnon (John, deceased), New Waterford and Kenny (Agnes) Pastuck, Scotchtown; sistersin-law, Mary and Kit Pastuck, both of River Ryan and Betty Pastuck, Glace Bay.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, George, Tony, Dave, Russell Pastuck.

Visitation will take place on Friday, February 17, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9. A chapel service to celebrate Raymond’s life will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Deacon Leo Penny officiating. Burial in St. Michaels Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the parish hall, Convent Street, all are welcome.
