SIVES, Emanuel ‘Bucky’

-

It is with heartfelt sadness that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of Emanuel ‘Bucky’ Sives, on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at the age of 93.

Born to Emanuel and Jenny Sives on May 16, 1923, in Inverness, Bucky was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-greatgrandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

Bucky’s greatest joy and the center of his world was his wife of 71 years, Irene ‘Rene’. In Bucky’s eyes, the sun rose and set with his wife. She was everything to him and their true love and devotion to each other serves as an inspiration to all who knew them. He was a devoted family man who enjoyed weekly Sunday dinners at his home with an ever-growing family.

Bucky was well-known in Sydney for racing stock cars in the early 1960’s and served as a firefighter with the Sydney River Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years. A lifelong PC Party member, Bucky was involved at both the Federal and Provincial levels, hosting many political events over the years. He was a devoted hockey fan, rarely missing a Cape Breton Screaming Eagles game. Together, Bucky and Rene enjoyed many years of traveling adventures in their motorhome. They spent winters in Florida and summers at ‘the bungalow’ in Northside East Bay.

He spent his life working hard, first at Malcolm S. MacDonald and then with S&M Trucking, a company he was instrumental in starting in 1967.

Bucky was predeceased by his daughter, Brenda Irene (Sives) Buck in 2014; his sister, Amelia MacLeod; step-sister, Josephine and step-brother, Louis Fiore.

Bucky is survived by his devoted wife, Rene Sives; his son, Donnie (Colleen) Sives; and step-brother, Joe Fiore. Our loving Papa will be greatly missed by granddaughters, Andree (Wade) Quinton, Jodi (Shawn) Skinner, Janine (Peter) Sives-MacDonald; grandsons, Darren (Allison) Sives and Troy (Debbie) Quinton; great-grandchildren, Alyssa (Chris) Butts, Kristopher Clark, Catherine Shaw, Alexander, Elizabeth and Jillian Skinner, Abigail Reeves, Sadie Sives and Matthew Quinton; great-great-grandchildren, Ryder and Elexis Butts. Bucky will also be dearly missed by brother and sister-in-law, Donnie and Mickey Hines and family, with whom he shared a special closeness over the years. He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and close friends.

Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Welton Street, Sydney, on Friday, February 24, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Church of Christ the King, George Street, Sydney, on Saturday, February 25, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Reg MacDonald officiating.

A special thank you to Shelley Jeremias, Julie MacGillivary and Brenda Morrison for their support and care.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton.
