Martha Veronica Stevens suddenly passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, February 20, 2017 at the V.G. Hospital, Halifax. Veronica was blessed with an extra seven years of life after her liver transplant, which she was very grateful for and used those years to enjoy life and spend time with her family.

Veronica was the daughter of the late Andrew Joseph and Dorothy (Sylliboy) Stevens.

She was a member of Holy Family parish, Eskasoni. During the summer months, Martha would travel during the blueberry picking season to harvest blueberrie­s. For many years she worked during the winter months at the Eskasoni Processing Plant in the Fisheries department. She was the undefeated gold medal champion of washer toss at the M’kmaq Summer Games. She could be described as a woman with a very charismati­c and upbeat personalit­y and never let life get her down in spite of health challenges over the years.

Surviving is her wife of 35 years, Jacqueline and two daughters, Shelly and Margaret Jayne; six grandchild­ren, Anjelikah, Danika, August, Bronson, Edmund Jay and Jaylyn; eight siblings, Little Andy (Kim), Donna, Frankie, Raymond, Allister (Keena), Norman, Bobby, Mary Noella (Floyd), Gina and godchildre­n, Chantella, Frankie J’ij, AJ Floyd, JD and Edmund Jay.

Martha was predecease­d by her nephew, Jacob Stevens.

Visitation will begin after 7 p.m. on Sunday, February 26 at the family residence 31 Burdock Lane, Eskasoni. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 28 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Church, Eskasoni with Fr. Martin MacDougall officiatin­g. Interment in the parish cemetery.
