Martha Veron­ica Stevens sud­denly passed away peace­fully sur­rounded by her fam­ily on Mon­day, Fe­bru­ary 20, 2017 at the V.G. Hos­pi­tal, Hal­i­fax. Veron­ica was blessed with an ex­tra seven years of life af­ter her liver trans­plant, which she was very grate­ful for and used those years to en­joy life and spend time with her fam­ily.

Veron­ica was the daugh­ter of the late Andrew Joseph and Dorothy (Syl­li­boy) Stevens.

She was a mem­ber of Holy Fam­ily parish, Eska­soni. Dur­ing the sum­mer months, Martha would travel dur­ing the blue­berry pick­ing sea­son to har­vest blue­ber­ries. For many years she worked dur­ing the win­ter months at the Eska­soni Pro­cess­ing Plant in the Fish­eries depart­ment. She was the un­de­feated gold medal cham­pion of washer toss at the M’kmaq Sum­mer Games. She could be de­scribed as a wo­man with a very charis­matic and up­beat per­son­al­ity and never let life get her down in spite of health chal­lenges over the years.

Sur­viv­ing is her wife of 35 years, Jacqueline and two daugh­ters, Shelly and Mar­garet Jayne; six grand­chil­dren, An­je­likah, Danika, Au­gust, Bron­son, Edmund Jay and Jay­lyn; eight sib­lings, Lit­tle Andy (Kim), Donna, Frankie, Ray­mond, Al­lis­ter (Keena), Nor­man, Bobby, Mary Noella (Floyd), Gina and god­chil­dren, Chantella, Frankie J’ij, AJ Floyd, JD and Edmund Jay.

Martha was pre­de­ceased by her nephew, Ja­cob Stevens.

Visi­ta­tion will be­gin af­ter 7 p.m. on Sun­day, Fe­bru­ary 26 at the fam­ily res­i­dence 31 Bur­dock Lane, Eska­soni. Fu­neral Mass will be celebrated on Tues­day, Fe­bru­ary 28 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Fam­ily Church, Eska­soni with Fr. Martin MacDougall of­fi­ci­at­ing. In­ter­ment in the parish ceme­tery.
