With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear father, brother, son and loving partner Gerard Phillip MacKinnon, age 53, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Gerard passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 24, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Growing up in New Waterford, NS, Gerard was the son of Carol (Hawco) and the late Phillip MacKinnon.

He was known for his love of sports, especially the Toronto Maple Leafs, as well as his great sense of humour and strong work ethic. He had a passion for carpentry and will be greatly missed by his colleagues and friends at MECO.

He is survived by his loving partner, Lisa Delaney; son, Jonathan (Melissa); daughter, Shelby (Mike); Lisa’s children, Kyle, Alisha and Cody; mother, Carol; sister, Karen (Rob) Bourque; brother, Richard (Jennifer) MacKinnon; nieces, Sonia (Colton) Bagnell & Carolyn Bourque (Lawson) and his special little buddies, Emmett, Reece and Gizmo. He will also be missed greatly by his numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.

As per Gerard’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation.

A chapel service will take place on Monday, Feb. 27, 2017 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Norman McPhee officiatin­g.

Burial will be held in Mount Carmel Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the parish hall, convent street, all are welcome.
