It is with deep sad­ness that we an­nounce the pass­ing of Frank Long, age 81, on Satur­day, Fe­bru­ary 25th, 2017, at North­side Gen­eral Hos­pi­tal, sur­rounded by his fam­ily.

Born on May 12, 1935, Frank was the son of the late Thomas and Mar­garet (Phalen) Long, Bras d’Or. He resided in Syd­ney Mines and was a mem­ber of Holy Fam­ily Par­ish.

Un­til his re­tire­ment, he worked as a car­pen­ter, a mem­ber of the United Brother­hood of Car­pen­ters and Join­ers of Amer­ica, Lo­cal 1588, Cape Bre­ton. For many years, he proudly op­er­ated ‘A& F Bi­cy­cle Re­pair’ on Fraser Ave, Syd­ney Mines.

Left to mourn with fond and lov­ing mem­o­ries are his sis­ter, Eileen (David) Lyle, Bras d’Or; sons, Frankie (Shirley), Syd­ney Mines, Al­bert (Holly), Guelph, ON; daugh­ter, Donna Marie (Travis) Marinelli, Ge­orge’s River; grand­chil­dren, Kristyn, Jor­dan, Keghan and Chelsey Long, Made­line, Molly and Gra­cie Marinelli; great-grand­daugh­ter, Eden and nu­mer­ous nieces and neph­ews.

Be­sides his par­ents, he was pre­de­ceased by his wife, Rose Marie (Dalton); sis­ter, Leona (Lloyd) MacLeod and broth­ers, Tom and Russell (Cather­ine).

The fam­ily would like to ex­press thanks to Dr. Kirk­patrick and the nurs­ing staff of 4 West for their com­pas­sion­ate care of Frank and our fam­ily.

Cre­ma­tion has taken place. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wed­nes­day, March 1, 2017, at 10 a.m., in Holy Fam­ily Church, Syd­ney Mines, with Fa­ther Jim Oliver of­fi­ci­at­ing. A re­cep­tion will be held in the par­ish hall af­ter­wards.

In lieu of flow­ers, do­na­tions in Frank’s mem­ory may be made to the Cape Bre­ton Can­cer Cen­ter, or a char­ity of one’s choice.
