It is with profound sadness that we, the family of Donald Francis McPhee, announce his passing on March 3, 2017 at 66 years of age.

Born in Sydney, November 2, 1950, he was the son of the late John and Flossie McPhee. Donnie was a graduate of Sydney Academy, St. F.X. and St. Mary’s University and had a long career as a teacher with the CB Victoria Regional School Board.

Donnie was a beloved husband, father, grandfathe­r and brother. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Colleen (Blazey); three children, Janet, Calgary, Brad (Katie), Sydney, Paul (Erin) and Jasper, and grandchild­ren, Charlie Marie, Mylie and Nyah. He is also survived by his sister, Mary (Francis), Sydney; brother, Allan (Cate), Edmonton and in-laws, Thelma and Bill Penney. Also left to mourn are many cousins and a host of wonderful friends.

Donnie loved sports of all kinds and was a talented athlete in both hockey and baseball. He loved spending his summers at the ‘bungalow’ in Big Pond, crosswords, his journal and dog walks with his best buddy, Diego. Donnie was willing to lend a helping hand to anyone and could fix just about anything. He loved spending time with his family, laughing and solving the world’s problems with his friends at Tim Horton’s and FaceTime chats with his granddaugh­ters, who were the light of his life.

A Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 7, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra Street, Sydney. A Celebratio­n of Donnie’s life will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2017, also from the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home. Rev. Sheldon Chant officiatin­g.

In Lieu of flowers Memorial donations may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre or the Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
