Two men from Eskasoni are facing charges after shots were fired during a home invasion in Richmond County on Sunday morning.

RCMP expect to lay several charges against the two male suspects — ages 20 and 23 — who are alleged to have entered a home on Highway 320 in D’Escousse at 1:09 a.m.

During the incident the homeowner was assaulted by being struck with the firearm and two shots were fired inside the residence that caused damage to the home.

The homeowner’s fiancée, adult son and adult daughter were present in the home during the incident.

The victim was transported to hospital for treatment of his injuries and was later released. No one else was injured.

According to the RCMP, the victim and the suspects were known to each other.

The suspects left the scene in a vehicle that was later found in a nearby ditch. The two were tracked on foot by an RCMP police dog. One suspect was located at 5:25 a.m. Sunday and taken into custody without incident. At 9:44 a.m. that same day the second suspect was located and taken into custody without incident, as well.

Both were held in police custody and were scheduled to appear in Port Hawkesbury provincial court on Monday.

Charges the suspects face include robbery, assault with a weapon and firearms offences.
