FARRELL, Doris
It is with deep sorrow that we, the family of Doris Farrell, announce her peaceful passing on March 11, 2017 at the Murrieta Health and Rehabilitation Center while recovering from a fractured hip.
Born on June 11, 1932 in Glace Bay, Doris was the daughter of the late Norris and Margaret (McIntyre) Dowe.
Doris and her husband, Wayne emigrated from Glace Bay, Nova Scotia to Lawndale, Ca in the early 60’s and raised three devoted sons. She lived in the family home until shortly after the passing of her husband in 2008, then moved in with her son, Norris and daughter in-law, Sandra in Lake Elsinore, CA until her passing.
Doris was a deeply spiritual person and regularly attended church at St. Johns church in Glace Bay NS, St. Catherine Laboure Church in Torrance, CA, and St. Francis of Rome Catholic Church in Lake Elsinore, CA. She was regularly involved with the local faith community and would serve as an exceptional role model, espousing the values of faith, love, and forgiveness.
Doris was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed sewing quilts, playing video games with her grandchildren, and taking trips back to Nova Scotia to visit her relatives. Even during her later years, she had an adventurous spirit and would enjoy taking extensive road trips across the country to experience life in other parts of the nation and broaden her horizons. She was also deeply passionate about music and would often spend hours teaching her grandchildren how to play the organ while encouraging any musical and artistic endeavors.
Doris dedicated her life to helping others and worked as a nurse for over 30 years at the Glace Bay Hospital in Glace Bay NS., Little Company of Mary in Torrance CA, and Hawthorne Memorial Hospital in Hawthorne, CA. After serving her community and assisting in saving countless lives, she retired in 1994.
Doris is survived by her sons: Robert (Robin) of Murrieta, CA, Leo (Luz) of Peoria, AZ, and Norris (Sandra) of Lake Elsinore, CA. Her sister, Anne (Ray) Lawrence of Glace Bay, her brothers: Lonnie (Yvonne), Donald (Dianne), and Kevin (Gina) of Nova Scotia, her sister in-laws: Betty Dowe (Jack), Katherine (Danny) Sullivan, Judy (Roddie) McDonald, of Nova Scotia as well as numerous nieces and nephews whom she adored.
Besides her parents, Doris was predeceased by her husband, Wayne,; sister, Audrey and brothers, Jack and Bud; brother-in-laws, Jimmy Farrell, Tommy (late Florence) Farrell, and sister-in-law, Bernadette Farrell.
