Local business will take centre stage next week in Baddeck.

The Victoria County Business Forum will be held on Wednesday at the Inverary Resort.

The event is hosted by the Cape Breton Regional Enterprise Network, which is administered by the Cape Breton Partnership. It’s a free event for local business owner/operators, as well government, industry and community representatives.

The forum will get started with registration at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch at noon. A series of speakers and discussions will be on the agenda throughout the afternoon.

The goal of the forum is to inform local businesses about the work of the Cape Breton Regional Enterprise Network and the Cape Breton Partnership, spread the word about what’s happening in the business community in Victoria County and have speakers address topics of interest to local business owners.

Guest speakers will include Leslie Wright, executive director of the Alexander Graham Bell Foundation, who will talk about the work of the organization; Madeline Harvey, Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site and visitor experience manager, who will outline the year ahead for local Parks Canada sites as Canada celebrates 150 years; and Tom Wilson, Victoria County’s director of tourism and recreation, who will provide an update on the county’s tourism strategy.

Keith MacDonald, president and CEO of the Cape Breton Partnership, and Patrick Austin, economic development officer for Victoria County with the Cape Breton Regional Enterprise Network, will also make presentations. There will also be a panel discussion featuring several business owners from across Victoria County.

Pre-registration is required. To register go online to: http:// businessforumvictoria.eventbrite.ca/, or contact Laura Jean Grant at laurajean@capebretonpartnership.com.

The Cape Breton Regional Enterprise Network was established by the province of Nova Scotia through the Department of Municipal Affairs and encompasses Victoria, Richmond and Inverness counties. It is overseen by a board of directors and is administered by the Cape Breton Partnership.

Funding is provided by each of the three municipal units and the provincial government. The network’s primary goals are to support the development and attraction of new businesses and the retention and expansion of existing businesses.
