Eagles win overtime thriller

Sixth time this season they defeat Mooseheads

It took a bit of extra time, but the Eagles were able to grab a win against the Halifax Mooseheads 3-2 on Friday night in front of 7,785 fans at the Scotiabank Centre.

This marks the sixth time this season the team has beaten the Mooseheads in nine matchups.

Arnaud Durandeau opened up the scoring early for Halifax with his 15th goal of the season at the 2:23 mark.

Eleven minutes into the second period, Frederic Aube found the back of the net to make it 2-0 for the Mooseheads.

The score would remain the same until there was less than two minutes left in the third period when Screaming Eagle Leon Gawanke scored his eighth goal of the season to cut the deficit in half.

Drake Batherson scored his 22nd of the season midway through the third period to tie the game for the first time since the beginning of the third.

It took Massimo Carozza just 37 seconds to bury the one timer and complete the Eagle’s comeback victory.

Kyle Jessiman stopped 24 of 26 shots to grab his 20th win of the season.

Carozza’s overtime heroics were enough to land him the first star of the game.

The second and third star went to Maxime Fortier and Alexis Gravel of the Moosehead’s respective­ly.

The win improves the Screaming Eagle’s record to 3823-4-2 on the season.

They currently have a onepoint lead for seventh place over eighth place Chicoutimi.

Halifax currently sits in 14th in the league with a 27-34-3-3 record are on the verge of not making the playoffs.

The Screaming Eagles regular season ends this afternoon at 4 p.m. in Moncton.

They will be entering the playoffs with home-ice advantage.
