Porter Garfield (Garry) Wilcox of Oil City (formerly Sarnia, Ontario), in his 85th year, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2017, at Fiddick’s Nursing Home, Petrolia, Ontario.

Born in Louisburg, Cape Breton Island, NS, July 13, 1932 to the late Porter and Maime (MacRury) Wilcox.

Garry is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret Wilcox (nee Matheson) originally from Donkin, Cape Breton Island, NS; his children, daughter, Mary Wilcox of Mississauga, ON and son, Craig (Michele) Wilcox of Sarnia, ON; granddaughters, Katy Kuzsper of Mississauga, ON, Carley & Shelby Wilcox both of Sarnia, ON and his faithful dog, Teddy. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews across Canada. Garry was also predeceased by all his siblings, Kay Skinner, Annie Levy, Phillip Wilcox and John Wilcox all of Louisbourg, Cape Breton Island, NS.

Garry retired from the Sarnia Police force after 31 years service, as Senior Superintendent. Following his years on the police force he served as a United Church Minister for over 20 years including Mandaumin United, Burns Mooreline United and Cedar Springs. He was a very active man and interested in many things, but most of all he was a great husband, father and grandfather. Garry always kept us on our toes and we were never bored. He overcame a number of challenges in his life and gave us someone strong to look up to. Generous to a fault - he cared for everyone, would spend time with you when you needed it and would give you the shirt off his back without hesitation. Garry always spoke his mind, which you either liked or did not, but you always knew where you stood and what his stand was. He worked hard and always strived to be better. Garry touched many lives through his ministry, volunteer work and police work and he will be deeply missed.

Cremation has taken place and an immediate family service held. Arrangements entrusted to SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia.

Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Sarnia and District Humane Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice (cheques only at the funeral home please).
