Junior Miners eliminated by Scotians in Game 7.
The season has come to an end for the Kameron Junior Miners.
Jacob Pentz scored the winner for the Pictou County Scotians as the visitors skated to a 4-3 win over the Junior Miners on Sunday in front of 1,100 fans at the Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre. With the victory, the Scotians captured the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League’s Sid Rowe Division championship in seven games.
Things started off well for the Junior Miners. Daniel Reid and Sean Smith on the doorstep scored in the opening frame for 2-0 lead.
The Scotians replied in the second period. Ethan Snell struck to cut the lead in half, but Junior Miners captain Shawn Neville replied soon after. A highlight-reel goal by Riley Cameron, followed by a nice tip from Blair Dewtie evened the score and set the stage for Pentz’s winner at 11:28 of the third.
Brandon MacDonald posted the win in goal, making 27 stops. Nick Walsh shouldered the loss, deflecting 30 shots.
The Scotians move on to play the Fred Fox Division champions for the NSJHL championship. The Liverpool Privateers lead the defending league champion Valley Maple Leafs 3-2 in that best-of-seven series. The league champion moves on to the 2017 Don Johnson Memorial Cup Atlantic Junior ‘B’ championship in Fredericton, April 25-30.
