-

New Victoria

We, the family, sorrowfully regret to announce the passing of our most loved and gentle wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-greatgrandmother, Isabel Theresa (Turnbull) MacKinnon on Friday, March 24, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with family members by her side.

Born in New Victoria, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Christina (Uloth) Turnbull and loving wife of the late Alexander (Nandy) MacKinnon.

Mom enjoyed life to the fullest and when she laughed you found yourself laughing right along with her. She had a kind and loving heart. Mom loved a good sing-a-along and to step dance whenever she got the chance. She made sure her children also knew how to step dance. During summer months when the grandchildren were young you would find Mom sitting under the canopy watching them swim in the pool, to her family came first.

Mom was a firm believer in her faith and would never miss a church activity or meeting. We know that God has her in his loving embrace as she peacefully entered his Kingdom. She was a member of St. Joseph’s C.W.L., New Victoria Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, St. Joseph’s Church Choir, Monday Night Women’s Bowling League, also her and Da were members of the New Waterford Fire Dept. mixed dart league. We don’t know if there was many darts thrown but there were a lot of laughs going on. Mom also at one time worked at Gaum’s Grocery Store.

Isabel is survived by her son, Alexander (Chipper) (Angelina); daughter, Brenda (Cyril) Roach, both of New Waterford; grandchildren, Gwendolyn (Kevin) MacKinnon, Cyril (Jacenta) Roach, Steven Roach and Shannon (Anthony) Kliza; greatgrandchildren, Crystal, Jessica, Jenna and Kendra MacKinnon, Emmett Kliza; great-greatgrandchildren, Owen and Charles MacKinnon; brothers, Edward (Betty), Ray, Douglas and Michael (Kay-deceased) Turnbull and sister, Barbara Deslaurier, USA.

Besides her parents and husband, Mom was also predeceased by a daughter, Gwendolyn in infancy; sisters, Jean, Marion, Ruth, Shirley and brothers, Gordie, Robert and Donnie.

Cremation has taken place and a chapel service to celebrate Isabel’s life will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at 11 a.m. with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial in St. Jospeh’s Cemetery, New Victoria. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave, New Waterford, 902-862-7500.
