- BY SHARON MONTGOMERY-DUPE

A Glace Bay man is encouraging the public to take the time to recognize those who make a difference in the community.

The Glace Bay Wall of Fame’s annual banquet will take place Friday at the Bayplex at 7 p.m.

“I think these people who give back to the community should be recognized by the community,” said Nick Bonnar, founder of the Wall of Fame. “These are the people that make our community what it is. These are the people who make it work.”

Bonnar said in the past community support has been tremendous.

“The last two years we soldout, which is great,” he said. “I hope we do again this year.” This is the 18th year for the Glace Bay Wall of Fame. This year’s inductees include athlete, Sandy Snow, volunteer, Greg Martin, community builder, Robert MacIsaac, sports team, Brodie’s Flyers broomball 1976-1977 and community impact award, Dominion Hawks Club.

Framed pictures of each inductee will be hung on the Wall of Fame along the walking track at the Bayplex, sponsored by Patten’s Funeral Home.

Anyone wishing to purchase tickets for this year’s event can pick them up at Bay Bye Sports in the Bayplex or telephone Bonnar at 902-849-6754.

The Glace Bay Hall of Fame was established 18 years ago and in 2015 the name was changed to the Glace Bay Wall of Fame.

He was the rookie of the year in 196465 with the Hamilton Red Wings.

A committee votes on the nominations.
