Special shopping event goes Saturday

In aid of Comets hockey team

A local group is offering a shopping experience and at the same time helping kids from across the Cape Breton Regional Municipali­ty enjoy hockey.

The Cape Breton Comets will be holding a spring shopping event on Saturday from 12-4 p.m. at the Reserve Mines fire hall.

Dayna Murray, one of the organizers, said admission is free however any donations will be accepted at the door.

“We want people to know they can come in for free,” she said.

Murray said the Comets are a novice major triple ‘A’ hockey team — in conjunctio­n with Andrew’s Hockey School in Prince Edward Island — which includes 17 players across the Cape Breton Regional Municipali­ty from North Sydney, Sydney Mines, Sydney and Glace Bay.

“The kids are from all over Cape Breton.”

She said they are fundraisin­g for tournament­s in Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Quebec, all happening in May.

The event will include 40 vendors.

“It’s great mix of independen­t distributo­rs and local crafters,” she said. “There will be a few illustrato­rs, handmade signs, people who do cakes, fudge, crocheted items, coasters, there will be a really great mix of crafters.”

There are about 20 independen­t distributo­rs including LipSense, Norwex, Seacret, Scentsy, Mayberry, Thirty-one and Voxx.

Some of the local crafters include Dayna’s Craftroom, Nabella Custom Designs, Mermaid Tears, Cara’s Cakes, Deco Designs, Sea and Sand Jewelry, Fudge and Stuff.

The event will also include a baked goods as well as fresh popped popcorn.
