Rose (82) passed away peacefully Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the Maritime Oddfellows Home in Pictou, NS. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of George and Carolyn (Griffin) Gracie. Rose was a devoted, witty, sarcastic and fiercely protective mother and grandmothe­r. She loved hockey at all levels and was a dedicated Canadiens fan. Her home and yard were always immaculate, and her bird feeders well stocked. She had an abiding concern for those in need, and a particular dedication to the Glace Bay Area Food Bank.

She is survived by eight children, Veronica, Halifax, Claudia (Brian Currie) St. Catherine’s, Ont., Harvey (Donna), Baddeck, Jim (Jackie), Halifax, Nan, Pictou, Ray (Sherri), Halifax, Pam (Cecil Saccary), Gander, NL, Kevin, Alberta; three sisters, Kay Nearing and Cecelia McDonald, Glace Bay, Carol Andrews, London, Ont.; 13 grandchild­ren and 7 great-grandchild­ren.

She was predecease­d by her husband, Harvey; and sister, Marie Blount, Georgia, USA.

Rose spent her last years at the Maritime Oddfellows Home in Pictou. We are grateful to every staff member for your contributi­on to our Mother’s comfort. Your compassion and service to seniors are second to none.

Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., Wednesday, March 29, at V.J. McGillivra­y Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St, Glace Bay. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, March 30, 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Parish in Reserve Mines. Fr. Dan Boudreau officiatin­g. Interment will be at a later date.
