Man arrested after barricadin­g himself in home

SYDNEY — A 40-year-old Albert Bridge man was arrested Tuesday having barricaded himself in a home on the New Boston Road.

According to Cape Breton Regional Police, they responded to the area at about 1:45 p.m. having been contacted over concerns for the man’s wellbeing including that he may be armed.

Police set up a containmen­t zone around the residence that included roadblocks and evacuated neighbouri­ng properties.

Members of the K-9 unit, emergency response team and crisis negotiator­s were also on scene and police were able to make contact with the individual inside the home.

The suspect cooperated with police and did exit the residence and was arrested without incident at approximat­ely 4 p.m. No injuries were reported and police continue their investigat­ion.
