Plans in place for guest home gala

Event raises money to address the needs of Northside facility’s residents

Plans are underway for Spring Gala 2017, an annual fundraiser for the Northside Community Guest Home.

The event will take place on Saturday, April 22 at the Emera Centre, North Sydney.

Hosted by the Northside Guest Home Foundation, the evening will feature appetizers from Thyme Savours with wine from Gallo Winery from 8-9 p.m., followed by dancing to the Blue Merchants from 9 p.m.-1 a.m.

The evening will include draws for furniture from Schwartz, a Halifax fun trip and a portrait from Fillmore Whitman.

Any guest who purchases a jar of Erma’s Apple Jelly will be guaranteed a prize valued between $20 and $260. There will also be ticket draws for a Sidney Crosby jersey and $1,000 to cap off the evening.

Sponsors for the evening include A&L Seafood (Joe Anthony), Tim Hortons (Hatchers) and the North Sydney branch of the Royal Bank.

The guest home foundation raises money year-round in order to help enhance the lives of the residents, whose needs constantly change.

This past year money raised by the foundation has been used toward improvements in Munro Place, a new parking lot and a library that will be dedicated in May.

Board member Glenda McKeough said the foundation continues to work to enhance lives of guest home residents.

“The support of the business community for the gala is tremendous with over $7,000 in prizes and donations already received,” she said.

“Certainly Spring Gala 2017 will be an exciting evening — an evening to showcase fine food, great music and prizes.”
