It is with broken hearts that we the family announce the sudden passing of our beloved father, brother, poppy and best friend, Malcolm Dan MacAskill on April 9, 2017 in the An Cala Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born November 24, 1959 in Sydney (Gabarus), he was the son of the late Donald John and Lillian (MacLean) MacAskill.

Malcolm had an infectious smile and crystal blue eyes that could tell a million stories. Anyone who knew Malcolm knew his love for music, playing his guitar at a good old Cape Breton Kitchen Party, and most of all his big heart and generous love for his family and friends.

Malcolm is survived by his best friend and life partner, Cheryl Bernier; daughters, Amy (Troy) MacKenzie, NB, Chrissy (Curtis) Luker, Florence and Kyla MacAskill, Westmount; sister, Elizabeth (Richard) Chandler, Whycocomag­h; brothers, Stewart, Gabarus and John (Lisa), Caribou Marsh, and grandchild­ren, Darren, Emily, Bailie, Bryce, Lynden, Blake and Lincoln.

He was predecease­d by his wife, Wanda (Lahey); son, Michael Dan and sister, Linda Austin.

Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in Zion Wesley United Church, Gabarus on Wednesday at 3 p.m., with Nancy Whitney-Latham, DLM officiatin­g. Interment in Zion Cemetery, Gabarus Lake.

Memorials may be made to the An Cala Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or Zion Cemetery.
