- BY CAPE BRETON POST STAFF

A community known the world over for its unique postmark is gaining notoriety for an entirely different reason.

According to the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA), Mountain Road in the picturesque rural community of Christmas Island is one of Atlantic Canada’s worst roads coming in last on the association’s annual top 10 list of worst roads in Atlantic Canada.

Through to Friday, April 21 at midnight, the Canadian Automobile Association will be asking Atlantic Canadians to vote for Atlantic Canada’s worst roads. Every road in Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick are eligible.

Results will be tabulated after the campaign closes, and CAA officials will share the top 10 worst roads in Atlantic Canada in early May.

Live updates of the top 10 ranking can be found at atlantic. caa.ca/worstroads.

According to CAA, through its research it has determined that by the time the costs of traffic congestion, repair costs, taxes and various other cost are tabulated, a bad road could cost the average motorist up to $3,000 each year.

The Worst Roads campaign is open to the public. Votes can be submitted using the CAA App, through the CAA Atlantic Facebook page, or online at atlantic. caa.ca/worstroads.

As of Thursday, April 13, the top 10 worst roads in the region are:
