ROBERTS, Judith Eileen (Connors)

It is with great sadness that we the family, announce the passing of Judith Eileen (Connors) Roberts, 75, of New Waterford on April 12, 2017 at the New Waterford Consolidat­ed Hospital.

Born in New Waterford, November 18th, 1941, she was the daughter of the late John Edward ‘Jack’ Connors and Alice Martha (Verner) Connors.

After completing high school, she attended Nova Scotia Teachers College, graduating in 1961. Judy taught school in New Waterford for many years, where her love and compassion for children was truly evident. She later was employed at UCCB, retiring as book store manager.

Her true passion was spending time with friends and family. As a mother, aunt and grandmothe­r, she developed special bonds with each of the children. She loved to sing and was a member of the Mount Carmel Choir for several decades. She was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her book club, together for 40 years. She was an exceptiona­l seamstress, the winner of the National Singer Sewing Contest at an early age. Judy was an extraordin­ary baker and took great delight in sharing her love of baking with her grandchild­ren. She will be remembered for her caring nature, tremendous sense of humor, and smiling eyes.

She is survived by her husband, Michael James Roberts, New Waterford; daughter, Kathleen (Paul) McLellan, Rothesay, NB; son, Lionel (Jill) Roberts, Saint John, NB; four grandchild­ren, Brett and Ally McLellan, Jack and Alex Roberts; brothers, Wayne ‘Buzzy’ (Joan) Connors, David (Debbie) Connors, both in New Waterford; sister, Glenna (John) Hilborn, Toronto and the many nieces and nephews that she loved so dearly.

Judy was predecease­d by her parents, sister, Beverly (Dave) Mackay, Truro and brother, Verner (Bette) Connors, London, ON.

Sincere thanks to the palliative care team at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and special gratitude to Dr. Brigitte Lowry and the nursing staff of New Waterford Consolidat­ed Hospital for their compassion and tender care.

The comfort and support provided by friends and family during the past number of months is truly appreciate­d.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 17, 2017 from 6-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivra­y Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A Funeral Mass of celebratio­n will take place Tuesday, April 18, at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Ray Huntley officiatin­g. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at St. Leonard’s Hall, Convent Street, New Waterford.
