We regret to announce the passing of Anna Elizabeth McGean, 86, on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Sydney Mines on June 13, 1930, Anna was the daughter of the late Archibald and Bertha (Quinn) Kernick. She was a member of Holy Family Parish, and the Sydney Mines Senior’s and Pensioners Club.

Anna is survived by her children, Georgina (Dan) Hamm, Sydney, Wayne (Linda), Cynthia (Paul) White, Mary Lou (Paul) Gracie, all of Sydney Mines, and Bruce (Jenny) McGean, Stewiacke. Also left to mourn are her grandchild­ren, Blair McGean, Genevieve Morrison, Wayne Patrick McGean, Larry White, Doug White, Greg White, Emily Gracie, Paul Martin Gracie, and Sydney McGean; great-grandchild­ren, Azlyn and Lincoln Morrison, and Owen Gracie; brothers, David (Mary) Kernick, and Jimmy (Nina) Kernick; sister, Betty Kernick, NB; a number of nieces and nephews; and special niece, Marie (Paul) Anderson, On.

Besides her parents, Anna was predecease­d by her husband, George McGean in 1994; sisters, Kathleen Kernick and Marguerite Porter; and brothers, Edward and William Kernick.

Visitation for Anna McGean will be held on Sunday, April 23, 2017, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines.

A celebratio­n of her life will take place Monday, at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. James Oliver officiatin­g. The burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Ingonish, on Saturday, April 29, 2017, at 2 p.m.

Anna’s family would like to thank the staff at the Northside Community Guest Home for all the care and compassion they gave to Ma.
