Organizers preparing for Bay Days Festival

-

The Bay Days Festival committee is up and running and is inviting the public to jump on board.

The committee’s first planning meeting of the season takes place Tuesday at 7 p.m. at branch 3 Royal Canadian Legion in Glace Bay.

‘’We could use more volunteers,” said committee treasurer Cecil Saccary. “We invite all diehard supporters and anyone else interested in getting involved to come out to the meeting.”

Saccary said the festival last year was bigger than ever.

“It was very successful and we were very happy with the turnout,” he said. “We’d just like to see more volunteers help share the workload.”

Saccary said they are also inviting anyone interested in sponsoring a particular activity or venue for the festival to attend the meeting.

As well they ask any groups, clubs or non-profit organizations who are planning activities during July 14-16, the days scheduled for Bay Days, to contact them.

“We will include their activity or event in our brochure.”

Last year the festival included everything from a parade to a car/motorcycle show and vendor day, a tea party, the annual duck race and a carnival day.

The festival also ended with a bang as always with the parade of sail followed by a fireworks display at Glace Bay harbour.

“The old favourites will be back,” Saccary said.

Saccary said last year as a result of successful fundraising and support they were able to provide events to all families for free.

“We are trying to raise enough money so we can do the same this year.”
