With heavy hearts we announce the death of Edward John Mroz, Dartmouth NS, on April 27th 2017 after a brief illness.

Ed was predecease­d by his parents, Josef and Katarzyna (Jasczur), and brother, Todziu.

He is survived by his wife, Margie (O’Neill); sons, Joseph, Larry (Gary Probe), Brian (Janice Brufatto) and Martin (Kalpna Solanki); grandchild­ren, Carolann, Nicole, and Juliette; sisters, Stella Paruch and Coya Adams, and many nieces and nephews.

Ed was born on Jan. 27th 1937 in Sydney, and baptized at St. Mary’s Polish Catholic Church. He graduated from St. F X with a degree in mathematic­s and engineerin­g, and wore his X ring proudly all his life. He married Margie, the love of his life, on Aug. 31st 1959 and never looked back. His work as a profession­al engineer in the steel industry this took him from Nova Scotia to Ontario and back again with the public service. He served 18 years with the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineer Reserves, retiring with the rank of Captain. Ed was very involved in his church and his community. He was part of the Cursillo team in Cape Breton and joined the Knights of Columbus. Ed was State Deputy for Nova Scotia from 2003 to 2005 and was a life member of the 3rd and 4th degree. He contribute­d much time and energy to St. Clement Church. He served as Chairman of the Air Cadet League of Nova Scotia, receiving the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2013. His Polish heritage was very important to him and he volunteere­d with the Polish dance group Pomorze.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 1, 2017 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. in A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland St., Dartmouth.

Funeral Service will be held Tuesday May 2, 2017, 10 a.m. in St. Clement Church, 16 Gaston Rd., Dartmouth.
