GRAHAM, Raymond

-

We regret to announce the sudden passing of Ray Graham after a fall.

Dad lived a full and active life for his 92 years.

Born in Dominion, he was the son of the late Walter Graham and Frances (Laffin) Graham.

Dad is survived by his wife, Joan (Kelly) and children, Raymond (Debbie), Helen, Paula all from Sydney and Robert, Truro. Dad has five grandchildren, Amanda MacKenzie, Mark and Colin Graham and Matthew and Breagh Gromick. He was predeceased by sisters, Kaye and Sr. Helen and brother, Charlie.

Dad worked in the steel and coal industries in the employee benefits and insurance areas for 50 years. He retired from DEVCO in 1989. After work, the YMCA was dad’s place to go. He met many friends there and his Y buddies were his companions over the years. He enjoyed his outings and coffee time with his much younger friends. They affectionately referred to him as Grampy.

Ray was very active in sports in his early years and was a long time runner before he was sidelined from a car accident when he was 71. He still remained active and got to the Y several days a week. He was always so proud to tell everyone that at 92 he didn’t take a pill. Many people asked him his secret and he would say, “being active.”

Family will receive guests from 1 to 2 p.m. on Monday, May 1, 2017 with a Memorial Service commencing at 2 p.m. all from TW Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney.

Interment of Ray’s cremated remains will take place in Immaculate Conception Cemetery at a later date. Condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.twcurry.com.

Donations in Ray’s memory may be made to either the Cape Breton Family YMCA or Ovarian Cancer Canada.
