Constant pain

Never sure what hurts the most

- Kathy Golemiec Kathy’s Diary

Hey there, it’s me, Kathy. So how was your week? Mine was one of those ‘here a pain, there a pain,’ only every day it seems like you add a different place to the day before but you can never really say which place hurts the most.

I guess I had a fever last night, and it broke because I had to change my pyjamas four times thought the night and they were soaked. I had a bit of a sore throat but when I got out my neti pot, that helped make my throat feel better.

I took Wayne over to the hospital this week to get a rectal scope done. I’ve had this test done before. I had to get a few polyps taken out (they are like lumps far inside the intestine). The worst thing about this test is getting ready for it the day before. You drink the worst stuff you ever tasted and within a few minutes you’re running to the washroom. You have to drink it four to five different times with the last one five hours before your test. By the time of the test you should be cleaned out. You are not to have warfarin or aspirin for a week to make sure you don’t bleed a lot if they have to do work while they are in there. You are not to eat anything with coloring or nuts in it. When I went I had carrot juice the day before and I forgot all about the orange color I was going to be inside. Before they started my test they put the gas mask on me and told me to count. I started but I was out cold at two. I was in the recovery room. Lori and Vada came to the hospital to get me and Vada asked Lori why are we sitting at the hospital waiting for Nanny to have a nap. When I awoke, I got out off the bed and went out the side door. Another doctor came along and took me back in the recovery room and said to the nurse, ‘Did you lose-someone - I found her wandering down the hall.’

Everything went OK for Wayne’s test. So if you have to get this test done don’t be afraid of the test. Just make sure you have a bathroom to yourself the day before.

I went into see if the doctor got my wrist x-rays back yet and sure enough it showed arthritis deep in the thumb. There is actually a very small joint in there so I asked the doctor if she would give me a cortizone shot and she said it was too small of a joint so she was going to get a surgeon to do it. Pain-wise this week, I’m at eight so that’s not good.

I ran into my friend Cookie today and she gave me inspiration. It’s like a boot in the bum without the footprint. I really needed that. Thanks, Cookie.

My secret sewer sent me a beautiful Easter egg to hang in the window all year and some tea cozies. The bracelet and necklace are beautiful, thank you very much.

Thank you for all the letters and gifts this week they are very much appreciated.

Weight-wise, I’m at 141 this week. The water and sugar, I didn’t make it through this week either. I’ll try again next week.

Dad and Janet were over this weekend to help me with the flea market.

On the next day I feel good, I will get out and rake the front yard. I’m sure glad it’s very small.

Tip of the week: Remember we all want to live a long time but really in the big picture, life is short so make the best of it. Remind your loved ones that you love them, as long as you’re having a happy life, it doesn’t matter how long it is - it seems like a long time.

A lady asked me in a letter if my mother was Dr. Phyllis Golemiec and that she went to university with her. Yes, it’s the same Phyllis Golemiec, she passed away six years ago. She was the greatest mother and a very smart lady. I miss her very much.

Let’s all keep our fingers crossed that spring is finally here and we will start having nice weather again.

I have a constant ringing in my ears. It comes with age but when everything is quiet, it is even stronger. When I go to bed, I set the timer on my TV so that it will go off after I have fallen asleep.

Well have a great week folks, and yes, the June bugs are out.
