MACKINNON, Donald Francis ‘Dee’

It is with deep sadness and broken hearts we regret to announce the passing of a wonderful husband and father, on Wednesday May 3, 2017 surrounded by his family in the Palliative Care unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Born in Sydney Donald (83) was the son of the late James and Catherine (MacDonald) MacKinnon.

Dee, as he was known as, led an active life; he enjoyed many sports such as baseball, bowling, curling, and hunting. He was an active member and past executive of the Ashby Legion Branch 138. He was a member and cast of the Cape Breton Barn Dance, and a retired warehouse manager from Domcor.

He is survived by loving wife, Mary Louis (Thompson) MacKinnon; children, DJ, Kathy, Colin (Valerie) and Robbie (Tammy); eight grandchild­ren, Jonathan, Natasha, Hailey, Kristopher, Alexander, Samantha, Emmalee and Bobby, and one great grandchild, Thomas.

Visitation will be Friday, May 5, 2017 from 12-2 p.m., Funeral Service to follow at 2 p.m. both in the SW Chant and Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra Street, Sydney, NS. Father Bill Burke officiatin­g.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Ashby Legion Branch 138.
