Na­tional code learn­ing day set for May 13

SYD­NEY — An in-per­son work­shop will be held on Satur­day, May 13 for girls and their par­ents to learn the skill of an­i­ma­tion. Si­mul­ta­ne­ously, hun­dreds of girls will be at­tend­ing sim­i­lar work­shops across Canada.

The Syd­ney work­shop will be held at UIT Startup Im­mer­sion in the New Dawn Cen­tre for So­cial In­no­va­tion in down­town Syd­ney.

The event will run from 1-4 p.m. and is open to girls aged 8-13 as well as a par­ent or guardian. Ladies Learn­ing Code is a na­tional not-for-profit that of­fers be­gin­ner-friendly tech ed­u­ca­tion. On the fourth an­nual code day, girls and their par­ents will learn about tech­nol­ogy, ex­pe­ri­ence the sat­is­fac­tion that comes from be­ing a builder of tech­nol­ogy, build and de­velop a fun, in­ter­ac­tive game to share with fam­ily and friends, and build con­fi­dence and de­velop a will­ing­ness to try new things.

At the end of the work­shop, each girl will get to present their cre­ation made through the pro­gram Scratch.
