We regret to announce the passing of Carol Ann Brown, 71, of North Sydney, on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Born in Sydney Mines on December 25, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Ray and Veronica (Popovich) Dillman.

Carol Ann is survived by her daughter, Heather Young; granddaugh­ter, Ashley Young; sister, Wallina (Daryl) Burton, and sister-in-law, Sarah Jane Finlayson. Also left to mourn are her nieces and nephews, Colleen, Walter, Paula, Tania, Lisa and Christophe­r.

Besides her parents, she was predecease­d by her daughter, Kimberly Young; brother, Thomas Finlayson; first husband, John Young, and her second husband, Tom Brown.

Her family would like to thank the staff at Taigh Solas, Palliative Care, and the Doctors and nurses in the ICU, for the care given to Carol. Thank you also to all who visited Carol.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Northside Hospital Foundation.

Visitation for Carol Ann Brown will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines. A celebratio­n of her life will take place on Wednesday, at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. James Oliver officiatin­g.

It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of Mary Theresa MacLeod on Sunday, May 7, 2017 in the An Cala Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Sydney on December 20, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Wallace Abraham and Mary Jessie (MacDougall) Martell. She spent her life in Sydney, where she was known for her beautiful singing voice and her large, vibrant family.

She is survived by sisters, Cecilia, Maureen (Don MacKenzie), Lorraine (the late Robert Lothier) and Margie (the late Claude MacDonald); brothers, Lawrence (Karen) and Duncan (Annette); daughters, Susan (Roger Strickland), Linda, Mary Theresa (Martin Ross) and Barbara (Allan MacPherson); sons, Brian (Judi), Duncan (Michelle), Bruce (the late Anna Gamble) and Hugh (Heather); as well as 14 grandchild­ren and many greatgrand­children who will fondly remember Nana’s sweet voice and loving smile.

Besides her parents, she was predecease­d by two brothers, Sid and Wally (Caroline) Martell, and two sons, Hugh Victor and Shawn.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 9 from 4-9 p.m. at the S.W. Chant Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. The Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 10 at 11 a.m. at Saint Theresa’s Church in Sydney.
