We re­gret to an­nounce the passing of Carol Ann Brown, 71, of North Syd­ney, on Satur­day, May 6, 2017 at the Cape Bre­ton Re­gional Hos­pi­tal.

Born in Syd­ney Mines on De­cem­ber 25, 1945, she was the daugh­ter of the late Ray and Veron­ica (Popovich) Dill­man.

Carol Ann is sur­vived by her daugh­ter, Heather Young; grand­daugh­ter, Ashley Young; sis­ter, Wal­lina (Daryl) Burton, and sis­ter-in-law, Sarah Jane Fin­layson. Also left to mourn are her nieces and neph­ews, Colleen, Wal­ter, Paula, Ta­nia, Lisa and Christo­pher.

Be­sides her par­ents, she was pre­de­ceased by her daugh­ter, Kim­berly Young; brother, Thomas Fin­layson; first hus­band, John Young, and her sec­ond hus­band, Tom Brown.

Her fam­ily would like to thank the staff at Taigh So­las, Pal­lia­tive Care, and the Doc­tors and nurses in the ICU, for the care given to Carol. Thank you also to all who vis­ited Carol.

In lieu of flow­ers, do­na­tions in her mem­ory may be made to the North­side Hos­pi­tal Foun­da­tion.

Vis­i­ta­tion for Carol Ann Brown will be held on Tues­day, May 9, 2017, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Syd­ney Mines. A cel­e­bra­tion of her life will take place on Wednesday, at 10 a.m. in Holy Fam­ily Church, Syd­ney Mines, with Fr. James Oliver of­fi­ci­at­ing.

It is with heavy hearts that we, the fam­ily, an­nounce the passing of Mary Theresa MacLeod on Sun­day, May 7, 2017 in the An Cala Pal­lia­tive Care Unit of the Cape Bre­ton Re­gional Hos­pi­tal. Born in Syd­ney on De­cem­ber 20, 1929, she was a daugh­ter of the late Wal­lace Abra­ham and Mary Jessie (MacDougall) Martell. She spent her life in Syd­ney, where she was known for her beau­ti­ful singing voice and her large, vi­brant fam­ily.

She is sur­vived by sis­ters, Ce­cilia, Mau­reen (Don MacKen­zie), Lor­raine (the late Robert Loth­ier) and Margie (the late Claude Mac­Don­ald); broth­ers, Lawrence (Karen) and Dun­can (An­nette); daugh­ters, Su­san (Roger Strick­land), Linda, Mary Theresa (Martin Ross) and Bar­bara (Al­lan MacPher­son); sons, Brian (Judi), Dun­can (Michelle), Bruce (the late Anna Gam­ble) and Hugh (Heather); as well as 14 grand­chil­dren and many great­grand­chil­dren who will fondly re­mem­ber Nana’s sweet voice and lov­ing smile.

Be­sides her par­ents, she was pre­de­ceased by two broth­ers, Sid and Wally (Caro­line) Martell, and two sons, Hugh Vic­tor and Shawn.

Cre­ma­tion has taken place. Vis­i­ta­tion will take place on Tues­day, May 9 from 4-9 p.m. at the S.W. Chant Funeral Home, 564 Alexan­dra St., Syd­ney. The Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 10 at 11 a.m. at Saint Theresa’s Church in Syd­ney.
