It is with deep re­gret that we the fam­ily an­nounce the sud­den pass­ing of Rod Shaw, age 76, on Fri­day May 5, 2017 at the Cape Bre­ton Re­gional Hospi­tal, Syd­ney with his lov­ing wife by his side. Born in Loch Lo­mand, he was the son of the late An­nie and Ed­ward Ma­cLeod and Ken­neth Shaw.

He was em­ployed with the Armed Forces un­til he was forced to re­tire due to his blind­ness.

Rod was an avid reader, he was up on all the up­com­ing events and the news. He was a great fan of the Toronto Blue Jays. He en­joyed lis­ten­ing to coun­try western music. His blind­ness didn’t slow him down, never stopped him from learn­ing new things.

He mar­ried the love of his life, Phyl­lis (Dawe), they moved to Toronto where he played hockey in a lo­cal men’s league and was an avid bowler. He also was em­ployed with the CNIB, when he re­tired they moved to Mi­ramichi, NB re­sid­ing there for ten years, fi­nally mov­ing back home to Cape Bre­ton to be closer to fam­ily.

Rod is sur­vived by his wife of 53 years, Phyl­lis; sis­ters, Vi­vian, Mae and Cheryl; broth­ers, Brent and Lawrence; sis­ter-in-law, Louise, as well as many nieces and neph­ews.

Be­sides his par­ents, he was pre­de­ceased by his son, Gordie Shaw; sis­ter, Malena and brother, Don­nie.

Cre­ma­tion has taken place. A memorial ser­vice will be held at 2 p.m. on Fri­day, May 12, 2017 at the SW Chant & Son Fu­neral Home, 564 Alexan­dra St., Syd­ney with Rev. Shel­don Chant of­fi­ci­at­ing. Re­cep­tion to fol­low.
