SHAW, Roderick ‘Rod’ Alexander

It is with deep regret that we the family announce the sudden passing of Rod Shaw, age 76, on Friday May 5, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney with his loving wife by his side. Born in Loch Lomand, he was the son of the late Annie and Edward MacLeod and Kenneth Shaw.

He was employed with the Armed Forces until he was forced to retire due to his blindness.

Rod was an avid reader, he was up on all the upcoming events and the news. He was a great fan of the Toronto Blue Jays. He enjoyed listening to country western music. His blindness didn’t slow him down, never stopped him from learning new things.

He married the love of his life, Phyllis (Dawe), they moved to Toronto where he played hockey in a local men’s league and was an avid bowler. He also was employed with the CNIB, when he retired they moved to Miramichi, NB residing there for ten years, finally moving back home to Cape Breton to be closer to family.

Rod is survived by his wife of 53 years, Phyllis; sisters, Vivian, Mae and Cheryl; brothers, Brent and Lawrence; sister-in-law, Louise, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predecease­d by his son, Gordie Shaw; sister, Malena and brother, Donnie.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 12, 2017 at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiatin­g. Reception to follow.
