ROGERS, Agnes Lena (1922-2017)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmothe­r and great-grandmothe­r, Agnes Lena (Melnick) Rogers on May 19, 2017 at the Glace Bay Health Complex.

Agnes was the daughter of the late John and Anne Melnick.

She was a Veteran of the Second World War serving with the Canadian Army. Agnes held many jobs over the years including Jays Restaurant when it was on Commercial St., in Glace Bay and Rosenblums Ladies Wear. Mom loved cooking, baking, gardening and she loved to trout fish and ice fish, she did so until the age of 91. Agnes loved a good game of Texas hold’em with her sons and their friends. She was a regular at the Casino on Thursday nights. She had a tremendous sense of humor and kept that until the very end. Agnes was a devoted Catholic and a member of Holy Cross Parish.

Agnes is survived and loved by her three sons, Bernie(Janice) Glace Bay, Blair(Charlotte) Glace Bay, Barry(Donna) Reserve Mines; two daughters, Beverly(Robert) Gilbert Amherst, Brenda(Pierre) Des Roches, Moncton and daughter-in-law, Donna Rogers, Oshawa, Ontario; 10 grandchild­ren; two step grandchild­ren and seventeen great-grandchild­ren.

Agnes was predecease­d by her husband, Robert; son, Bryne; brothers, John, Stanley, Frankie, Joe and sisters, Stella, Helen, Mary, Annie and Wanda.

In honouring her wishes there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of TJ Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialist­s 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, (902)849-4199.

Funeral will be Held on Monday, May 22, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Holy Cross Parish with Father Leo Boone Officiatin­g, reception to follow in Parish basement.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton Regional Hospital or a charity of ones choice.
