It is with great sad­ness and wounded hearts that we an­nounce the death of Fred White 81, on May 18, 2017 at the Cape Bre­ton Re­gional Hospi­tal, Syd­ney. He passed away peace­fully sur­rounded by his fam­ily.

Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Mal­colm and Cather­ine White.

Fred worked in the coal mines for a sev­eral of years and at a CCM Fac­tory in On­tario. He then re­turned home and spent about 20 years work­ing in the Glace Bay Min­ers Fo­rum. Fred was an ex­cel­lent ath­lete and ex­celled as a Great Soft­ball Pitcher, a good hockey player, an ex­cel­lent dancer and at one time the best skater on the Is­land. He also had one of the best gar­dens in Glace Bay and he gave most of it away free of charge. He loved books, was deeply spir­i­tual and he mem­o­rized many pas­sages of Scrip­ture.

He will be sadly missed by his daugh­ters, Kathy and Char­lene; brother, Roy; sis­ters, Effie (Bruce), Susie (Jack), Lena and Joyce, and also Alisha and Carol Anne, Glace Bay.

Be­sides his par­ents Fred was pre­de­ceased by his broth­ers, Mal­cie and Aubrey and a sis­ter, An­nie.

A Cel­e­bra­tion of Fred’s Life will be held on Mon­day, May 22, 2017, 11 a.m. at TJ Tracey Funeral Home Chapel, a pri­vate Fam­ily burial will be held at a later date.

A spe­cial thank you to the Doc­tors, Nurses and Staff at the Pal­lia­tive Care Unit, Cape Bre­ton Re­gional Hospi­tal, to Skip and Ann Nash for driv­ing Fred to his ap­point­ments, Joyce and Susie for the lovely meals and vis­its, and for all the ten­der, lov­ing care shown to Fred by Effie and Bruce Hud­son. To Bruce Hud­son Jr. and wife Kelly, thank you.

Fred will be re­mem­bered for his com­pas­sion and great sense of hu­mour. Fred’s favourite quote was, “It is not the size of the dog in a fight that counts, but the size of the fight in the dog.”
