It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Daniel (Dan) William Grace on May 19, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a hard-fought battle with illness over the past several years. Dan was born on February 3, 1942 in New Waterford and worked as a coal miner for most of his working life. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing with his brothers, family camping trips and time around the hockey rink. Dan was a proud family-man who appreciate­d a passionate conversati­on, was very loving to his family and especially proud of his five grandchild­ren. Dan loved his dogs Buffy and Pebbles.

Surviving are his three sons, Paul (Lori) Grace of Oshawa, ON, Steven (Sherri) Grace of New Waterford and Brian (Carol) Grace of Timberlea, NS; his extended family, special partner, Evelyn Tighe and her sons, John Blair (Ashley) Tighe of New Waterford and Troy Tighe of Edmonton, AB. Dan was Poppie to five grandchild­ren, Liam, Mitchell, Madison, Lauren and Olivia, who were dear to his heart.

Dan is also survived by his brothers, Raymond (Debbie) Grace of Lingan Rd. and Eddy (Betty) Grace of New Waterford; his sisters, Carmel (Jed) Miller of New Waterford, Kay (Donnie) MacGillivr­ay of New Waterford and Jessie (Dave) Picco of Mira; sister-in-laws, Barbra Grace of New Waterford and Barbra Reid of ON; brother-in-law, Russell Muise, and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Daniel and Annie Grace, Dan was also predecease­d by his loving wife, Irene, and his brothers, Walter and Birt.

Dan’s sons, Paul, Steven and Brian would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to Evelyn who provided passionate care and companions­hip for Dan to his death.

Cremation has taken place. A chapel service will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Deacon Leo Penny officiatin­g. The service will be followed by a luncheon at the K.O.C., Plummer Ave., in which all are invited to help celebrate his life. Burial will be at a later date. Funeral arrangemen­ts are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 902-862-7500.
