MACDONALD, Theresa Elizabeth

-

Loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, Theresa MacDonald, age 90, passed away at Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Sunday, May 21, 2017. She was the daughter of the late Augustus ‘Gus’ and Mary (MacCormack) MacDonald.

A proud Cape Bretoner, Theresa was born in the very home she lived for all of her 90 years. She was happiest when surrounded by family and friends, the more the merrier. From the young age of thirteen she had to care for her parents and as an adult, a large family of her own. Through this, she was able to find the time for her love of gardening, reading, crossword puzzles and trying out new crafts and ideas. When her health was better she loved to go to the weekly Tarabish and 45s games in the community, and known to share a funny joke or two at the card table for a good laugh. She loved all things Scottish and was a great resource for people looking for information on family history and interesting stories from long ago. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Theresa is survived by her eight children, Diane Frost (Ralph), Calgary, David (Bedford), Donnie (BC), Marilyn (Keven), Bobby, Cameron and Gerry (Dana), all of the Sydney area, and Barbara, Halifax; nine grandchildren, Ralph (Debbie), Steven (Maria), Richard (Traci), Lindsay, Curtis (Ravyn), Lynnette (Kenny), Derrick (Michelle), Andrew (Amanda) and Sarah; twelve great grandchildren, Alex, Leah, Connor, Sam, Katie, Dakota, Colby, Bently, Malaya, Braylin, Kayla, and Kenna; sisters-in-law, Sr. Mary Cecilia MacDonald and Ethel MacDonald; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and many cherished friends.

Besides her parents, Theresa was predeceased by her sister, Rita (Ken) Kerr, and brothers, Ned, Joe (Rose) and Joseph Frances in infancy, and former spouse, Bernie ‘Bessie’ MacDonald.

Visitation will take place on Friday, May 26 from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. at SW Chant Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra Street, Sydney. Funeral service will take place on Saturday, May 27 at 11 a.m., St. Mary’s Church, East Bay (reception to follow). Interment at a later date.

The family would like to thank those who helped us during this difficult time by bringing food and offering their support. We would also like to thank the staff of the Cape Breton County Homemakers for their kindness and compassionate care.
