MACDONALD, Irene H.

-

It is with the deepest regrets that we announce the passing of Irene MacDonald, formerly of Inglis Street and most recently a resident of the Cove Guest Home, on May 22, 2017.

Mom was born in Glace Bay and moved to Salmon River as a young child. Mom worked and grew up on the family farm in Salmon River until she married Warren MacDonald who became employed with Canada Manpower. Mom’s focus shifted then to planning and starting a family. She was a part time caregiver to Mrs. Ann Deleski once her three children were in their teen age years. In the interim, Mom developed a love of bowling at the BolMor/Heather Lanes close to her home and could often be caught for a chat at the mall. She so very looked forward to their summer vacations in PEI and thoroughly enjoyed their visits to NFLD. She also developed a love of reading that she carried through until her final days.

After the loss of her husband in 2008 mom remained very strong and expanded on her love of travel and had four great trips to Cuba that she fully enjoyed, not to mention another two trips to PEI. She also totally appreciated a good hot cup of tea with a sweet or two.

Mom will forever be missed by daughters, Eunice, Maxine (Joe), and son, Keith; grandson, Travis; granddaughters, Rachelle (Byron) and Teela; as well as her three beautiful great-grandsons, Jeydon, Alijah and Isaiah, who were the lights of her life. She is survived by loving sisters, Wilma Huntington (Clarence) and Ronalda Woodworth (Alison); sisters-in-law, Isabel Morrison and Leah Elinor (Reg Skanes); brothers-in-law, Clifford (Carol) and Glen (Mary Jo); several nieces, nephews, and her honorary daughter, Donelda Johnson, whom she loved very much.

She was predeceased by her husband, Warren; parents, Rachel and Alex Stevenson; brother, Murdock (aka Junior) (Susan); mother and fatherin-law, Hazel and Angus MacDonald; brothers-in-law, Ervin Morrison and Harry Huntington.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 25, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with Funeral service Friday, May 26, 2017 at 11 a.m. both in the SW Chant and Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney.

Reception to follow prior to internment at Oakfield Cemetery, where she will join Warren again.
