Classified, Ron Sexsmith to perform at Makin’ Waves

-

Award-winning East Coast musician Classified and fivetime Juno winner Ron Sexsmith will highlight this summer’s Makin’ Waves Music Festival at Wentworth Park.

The two are part of a list of well known artists and emerging stars scheduled to perform each Thursday from July 6-Aug. 3 at the Sydney park.

During his July 6 performance, Classified is set to bring together an acoustic ensemble to highlight the songwriting element of his hit singles.

During his career, he has collaborated with artists such as Brett Emmons of The Glorious Sons, Nova Scotia singer Elijah and East Coast songwriter David Myles.

Sexsmith will take the stage on July 13 to share songs from the 15 albums he has created over his long career, including his latest album known as “The Last Rider.”

Other performers for the festival will include North Preston’s Reeny Smith, considered a rising star in the East Coast music scene, and The Tom Fun Orchestra.

Additional performers and festival details will be announced throughout the month of June.

The festival, sponsored by the Sydney Credit Union, will also host the Cape Breton Music Industry Cooperative Front Stage contest to give young songwriters a chance to take the stage.

Songwriters, aged 23 and under, can submit a song and a brief statement about their music to www.cbmic.ca from June 2-16 for consideration.

The Makin’ Waves Music Festival is an annual free concert series produced by the Cape Breton Regional Municipality recreation department and Cape Breton Music Industry Cooperative.
