SAMPSON, George Enver

-

I wish to announce the peaceful passing of my father, George Enver Sampson, on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at the age of 97, in the Veteran’s Unit of Harbourview Hospital, Sydney Mines.

Born in Florence, he was the son of Ambrose and Mary (Jessome) Sampson. He was the last surviving member of his family of birth.

Following his service in the Royal Canadian Air Force, he worked with Metropolitan Life Insurance on the Northside. After taking his broker’s license in Chicago, he moved to Sydney River where he opened his own business, core brand Maritime Life.

A variety of interests engaged Enver, among them, politics, music, fishing, camping and genuinely enjoying the company of valued friends.

He is survived by his son, Brett and grandchildren, Hannah, Cavell, Kimberly and Christopher, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Genevieve, the love of his life (2010); sons, Matthew (2010), and Enver Jr. (1985).

Donations in Enver’s memory can be made to the Veteran’s Unit, Harbourview Hospital, Sydney Mines. I want to express a special thank you to the nurses and staff for their care and support for Dad.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 2, 2017 from 12-2 p.m. in the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, with a celebration of life to follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
