It is with deep sorrow that we, the family, announce the passing of Charles McNamara, 75, on Monday, June 1, 2017 at the Glace Bay Hospital with his family by his side. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Thompson and Mary (Gibson) McNamara.

Charles served in the air force for 5 years. He worked at the heavy water plant and also worked for Canada Post as a mail man. Charles was a musician, music was the love of his life and he could play almost any instrument. Charles was also a big fan of horse racing.

Charles is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Leforte; sons, Kenneth (Sandi), Glace Bay, Shawn (Karen), Dartmouth; sister, Colleen (Frank) MacDonald, Dartmouth; brothers, Leo (Iris), Waterloo, ON and Kieran (Jo Anne), New Waterford; sister-in-law, Diane McNamara, Sydney, and grandchild­ren, Jessica, Colin and Katrina.

In following Charles wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivra­y Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, June 5, 2017 at 10 a.m. in St Anne’s Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Leo Boone officiatin­g. A reception will follow in the foyer of the church. Interment will take place in St. Anne’s cemetery.

Memorial donations in Charles memory may be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society.
