- BY CAPE BRETON POST STAFF news@cbpost.com

One of two Glace Bay residents charged with trafficking in fentanyl has been released on bail after agreeing to abide by a host of conditions.

Candice Marguerite MacIntyre, 31, is now scheduled to return to provincial court June 5 to enter pleas on drug and weapon offences.

MacIntyre was charged along with Elliot Gerard Gouthro, 43, of Cadegan Drive, after Cape Breton Regional Police searched two homes in Glace Bay.

Both are charged with five counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking in fentanyl, hydromorphone, oxycodone, dextroamphetamine and methylphenidate (Ritalin).

They are also charged with possession of a weapon (a Mauser rifle) with no licence, possession of a prohibited weapon (an ASP baton), careless storage of ammunition and careless storage of a rifle.

Gouthro is also charged with two counts of uttering threats and four counts of breaching court orders by failing to keep the peace, refrain from using a cellphone and two weapon possession counts.

Among the conditions of her release, MacIntyre is to live at a Reserve Mines address and is not allowed to possess any weapons or a cellphone. She is also to abide by a curfew and report once a week to Cape Breton Regional Police.

Gouthro is scheduled to have a bail hearing also on June 5.

While police had suspected fentanyl, an extremely powerful opioid, was being used in the Cape Breton drug trade, the seizure in Glace Bay was the first on the island. The drug is blamed for hundreds of overdose deaths across the country.
