The public is invited to enjoy the outdoors and support the community.
The #bayitforward group is hosting a community market behind the People’s Mall in Glace Bay Saturday from 9-11 a.m.
“It’s a great opportunity to get out and have a good time, see familiar faces and to be part of the rejuvenation of our town,” said Mike Kelloway, chair of #bayitforward.
Kelloway said the #bayitforward group held an indoor market in February which featured 20 vendors and saw more than 300 people attend.
“We decided to do it again but this time to have it outdoors.”
He said anyone wishing to set up a vendor’s table is asked to call Pam Leader, manager of the Savoy and a member of #bayitforward at 902-8421599. Tables are $10 each with proceeds to go towards future events and activities in the community.
Kelloway said this is a great way for vendors to not only sell their product but also to find new markets.
“It’s a chance for entrepreneurs to collaborate as well and get to know each other.”
The #bayitforward group was formed earlier this year with the revitalization of Glace Bay as its focus.
Kelloway said the group now has 1,000 members.
“We are always looking for people interested in working with the group, in rolling up their sleeves and helping with the social and economic development of Glace Bay.”
He said they are continuing development projects for Glace Bay and have set up two groups — an economic development team that includes people with a variety of backgrounds and a fundraising group specializing in developing fundraising initiatives.
He said one of the projects is raising money for Christmas lights for the downtown core and they are also working on a project focused on infrastructure and programming for arts and culture.
As well he said the group has also been active in contributing economic ideas to Business Cape Breton, who in partnership with the Cape Breton Regional Municipality and the provincial government, has been commissioned to promote a revitalization plan for Glace Bay and area.
