More performers including a Juno nominee have been added to this summer’s Sydney Credit Union Makin’ Waves Festival schedule.

Juno Award winning songwriter Old Man Luedecke along with Cape Breton bands The Blues Merchants and Tamarack, and rising star Dave Sampson will be rounding out this year’s lineup, which also includes previously announced Classified, Ron Sexsmith, Reeny Smith, and The Tom Fun Orchestra.

Makin’ Waves begins on July 6 and runs each Thursday evening at 6 p.m. until Aug. 3 in Sydney’s Wentworth Park.

This year’s festival will open with Dave Sampson, a finalist in the Casino Nova Scotia Artist in Residence competition as well as writing and singing the hook for Classified’s hit “No Pressure.” Sampson will be making his second appearance at the Makin’ Waves Music Festival, the first artist to do so, and will be taking a full band with him for his July 6 performance opening for Classified presented by 101.9 The Giant.

Old Man Luedecke is a twotime Juno Award winner for roots and traditional album of the year and 2016 ECMA winner for album of the year. He will perform July 13.

The Blues Merchants have been performing at festivals across the Maritimes for the past 25 years including the Stan Rogers Folk Festival and Rock the Dock, as well as working as a backing band for Dutch Mason, Matt Minglewood and Sam Moon. Their 2016 release, “Davis Street,” was nominated for a 2017 ECMA blues album of the year award. The Blues Merchants will perform on July 20, opening for East Coast rising star Reeny Smith presented by Bluewave Energy.

Fronted by Dan Hooper and Alicia Penney (Tom Fun Orchestra, Static in Action), Tamarack has developed a unique songwriting voice combined with superb harmonies that set them aside from many of their peers. Tamarack will open for The Tom Fun Orchestra on July 27.

Sydney Credit Union Makin’ Waves Music Festival is produced by CBRM recreation and the Cape Breton Music Industry Cooperative. Festival Partners include 101.9 The Giant, Bluewave Energy, and Sound Source Pro Audio.
